The Vision Behind Samphire House
Discover the story behind Samphire House, an architect-designed luxury coastal retreat in Pembrokeshire, where contemporary architecture, sustainable design and a remarkable family legacy come together. Overlooking Poppit Sands within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the house was brought to life through the shared vision and dedication of three generations, with every detail carefully considered by architect-owners Emma and Luke alongside the wider family. More than a luxury holiday home, Samphire House is a place created to bring people together, celebrate the beauty of West Wales and create lasting memories for generations to come.

A House With A Story
Samphire House is the culmination of a family dream almost fifty years in the making. The land, which once housed a small bungalow, was originally purchased by Emma and Sam’s grandfather, and later passed down to their father, Steve, who inherited both the plot and the hope that one day a new home would stand here, embracing its unique setting above the River Teifi. Steve and his wife Deb, together with their children Emma and Sam, spent long summers in Pembrokeshire, building memories in the landscape that would later shape the house.
Although Steve sadly passed away before seeing the vision realised, building Samphire House became Deb, Sam and Emma’s way of honouring his legacy.
As architects, Emma and her husband Luke designed and project-managed every aspect of the build, living on site throughout to ensure every detail was carefully considered. It has been a labour of love from the very beginning, and we’re immensely proud of what has been created.
Above all, we wanted to make a home that brings people together - a place where families can reconnect, celebrate, slow down and create memories of their own. We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to life.
Samphire House
Perched above the banks of the River Teifi, just moments from the wide expanse of Poppit Sands, Samphire House is a contemporary home shaped by the landscape that surrounds it.
Its simple, gabled form draws on the rural architecture of West Wales, sitting quietly within its hillside setting. A plinth of locally sourced slate anchors the building to the ground, while a restrained palette of natural materials soften the interiors, creating spaces that are warm, calm and tactile.
The house is designed around the view, its character defined by proportion, texture and light. An open-plan living space occupies the upper floor, where generous glazing frames the sweeping panorama across the estuary. Here, the rhythm of the tides, shifting light and expansive skies become part of daily life, changing with the seasons and never quite the same.
Inside, warm Douglas fir, polished concrete and carefully chosen finishes lend a quiet richness to the interiors, balancing clean contemporary lines with comfort and warmth. Every space has been considered to foster a sense of ease - whether gathering with friends over a long dinner, settling into a quiet corner with a book, or simply watching the landscape unfold beyond the windows.
We hope Samphire House continues to gather people and memories for years to come.
